Who We Are2019-06-20T17:57:59+00:00

Cari DeCandia, Ed.D.

Originally from New York, I came to North Carolina as a scholarship athlete at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where I played softball for the Spartans.  After graduating with a BA in Psychology and Minor in Coaching, I started my career in the corporate world and spent the next fifteen years with companies ranging from Fortune 100 to small start-ups working in business development and sales.  My responsibilities have included direct sales, supervision of sales teams, and the creation of business processes to name a few. While I enjoyed many aspects of my career and obtained a good level of success by most people’s standards, I realized that I did not feel fulfilled.

After some soul searching and long conversations with those important to me, I decided to go back to school and pursue advanced degrees in my original passion of sport and performance psychology.  I realized that I felt most alive when I was both learning the skills of achievement and then was sharing that knowledge with others so they could also realize their potential.  I have earned both my M.S. and Ed.D. in Sport & Performance Psychology and have a concentrated study in Positive Leadership and Administration.

What I Believe

I believe that everyone was put on this earth with a purpose.  It is when this purpose is aligned with one’s strengths and their individual passions that great results can occur.  For me, I believe my purpose is to help others become the best versions of themselves and reach new levels of achievement.

As a sport and performance psychology consultant, I hold several core beliefs. The first is empowerment. I believe my role as a mental skills consultant is to provide those I consult with the tools, training and knowledge they need in order to perform optimally and realize their potential.  My second core belief is the use of positive principles such as a focus on mastery. There is ample research and evidence that a focus on mastery helps individuals to experience increased performance, increased self-efficacy and self-confidence, greater resiliency and decreased anxiety.  It is these positive effects of a mastery approach that will enable me to help those I work with to perform at or near their potential and ultimately achieve greater success.
